Flat Pond Dam - An Important Update

This blog is so busy with the flow of views and comments and demands for more and newer information that I feel, some days, that I may go quite mad. And Flat Pond, in particular, is top of the list of viewers who want to know “why”.

So, I felt an update was necessary today, particularly due to the excessive precipitation we have been enduring these last several days.  So, whilst out to get my 13,000 daily steps, I visited the holy site and reflected upon just what the “why” of Flat Pond is and how that “why” continues to wend its way thru my life and the life of countless others and where the "why" is leading us and when it will all end or not end.

The spillway pipe continues to swallow down gallons of fresh water each minute.  Clearly the where is answered here and therefore needs no further discussion.

And Flat Pond exhibits its own special majesty it is abundantly clear what the how is or was.

The motion of the flow is simply mesmerizing.  Nothing satisfies us more, in our later years, than a healthy flow.  This answers better than any other the what of the matter.

And no self respecting retrospective of FPD would be complete without a view of Rick's Tree in perspective.  And if we were to chop down Rick's Tree to read the rings, we would know so well the when of Flat Pond Dam.

I hope this clears up all the questions posed in the comments section of this blog but please feel free to keep the queries coming...

Finally!!

I broke down today and finally rented a storage space for $75/mo. I unloaded the truck directly into Unit 13. That's thirteen, for good luck. It was with great relief that I was able to offload one load to the new space.

Sand bags?

So, there is a hurricane headed this way. Could that explain why they have been filling sandbags all day long?

What a vacation this is turning out to be!!

Coastal Flooding

My beach “look”...

Getting lots of sun tho' today is rainy and much cooler. Off to the beach in a few minutes.

Deluge!

We went to the boardwalk to do some shopping and monstrous black clouds growled in from the West. We wisely headed over to grab the bus just as the skies let loose their furious downpour.

We took the bus as far north as it runs (145th Street) and the street flooding was tremendous.

By the time our return trip got us to 36th Street, the rain had abated enough for us to make it back to the room without getting drenched.

Rain Date

So after taking yesterday as a day off for both my son drenched skin as well as my slightly blistered feet, I got up early and was at the waters edge by 6 AM. However, I should have checked the weather report before I venture down as we are facing a few hours of rain and storms.

Me and the sunrise

I wasn't even sure if we would still be here in Ocean City today. Yesterday Michael was a very very ill and had to be rushed to the hospital by ambulance. We never got a clear diagnosis of what was causing his severe abdominal pain but it ranges from possible gallstones to a bowel obstruction. Whatever it is or was it pretty much ate up all of yesterday.

We did make it back to the room late last night after about six hours in the ER. He was doing much better when I went to bed around 10 PM last night and as it is only 6:30 in the morning he has not gotten up yet.

So I'm enjoying another nice sunrise on the beach wondering what will happen next.

150 FEET of buffet!

Wow!

Today on Assateague Island...

Mr. Munch...

...is my first mooch of the day. It's only 7:07am and it is already roasting hot. Water is deliciously warm. So far I have the plage all to myself, save for a few rotund wanderers and Mr. Munch, of course.

Doing the beach thing...

First morning

I was up and on the beach by 6:11 AM. Already took a dunk in the surf. Now I'm watching the rising Sun. It's already 75°!

Key to Longevity

According to some study done on 90-year-olds the following was noted:

Those who drank two glasses of beer or wine per day or 18% less likely to die.

Those who exercised 15 to 45 minutes per day were 11% less likely to die.

Those who were slightly overweight but not obese were 3% less likely to die.

Those who engaged in hobbies for two hours per day were 21% less likely to die.

Those who drank 2 cups of coffee per day were 10% less likely to die.

Weather

The weather has been very odd this winter and we are fed up with it. On Saturday last we had a steady snowstorm that made the view pretty but was generally unimpressive. Today, Tuesday, I'm home (day off) and the temp is already 43. Supposed to be 70 tomorrow. Spring soon, please.
